4 Prayers For The World

Here are four prayers that the world desperately needs.

Prayer for Repentance

Nehemiah’s prayer is truly one meant for today as he prayed while “confessing the sins of the people of Israel, which we have sinned against you. Even I and my father’s house have sinned. We have acted very corruptly against you and have not kept the commandments, the statutes, and the rules that you commanded your servant Moses” (Neh 1:6-8). Read the prayer of Nehemiah in chapter 1 and you can find a great way to pray for this or another nation.

Prayer for the Refugees

There are so many refuges now in the Middle East that it is actually equal to some of the states in the U.S., and it’s growing worse. With the allied forces battling terroristic forces, there are hundreds and thousands of people who must flee from the battles every day, or if they remain, they run the risk of being killed in their own homes. Pray for the kingdom to come when all suffering such as this comes to an end (Rev 21:4).

Prayer for Peace

This world needs peace, and world peace will only come by the Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ, and He will come in great power and great glory to bring swift justice to the world someday. For those who are Christ’s, we could not have had the peace of God until we were first at peace with God, and this meant that we repented of our sins, and trusted in Christ. Only that brings peace between us and God. If that is true of you, then pray for the Prince of Peace to come, and to come quickly.

Fasting and Prayer

The history of ancient Israel shows that when crisis hit, some of the kings and prophets spent days fasting and praying…and often, the nation would fast as a whole. In one case, Nehemiah records, “Now on the twenty-fourth day of this month the people of Israel were assembled with fasting and in sackcloth, and with earth on their heads. And the Israelites separated themselves from all foreigners and stood and confessed their sins and the iniquities of their fathers” (Neh 9:1-2). That is a fast and prayer of confession of sin and trying to stay separate from the world where pagan religions abide. In the same way, some fast and pray to break those powerful addictions and separate themselves from their foreigner, whatever that might be. Fasting and praying for national peace shows that you are serious.

Conclusion

Perhaps you can come up with other ways that we can pray for this dead and decaying world. Sin’s got a grip on the world for sure, but not so for those who have trusted in Christ. Those who haven’t yet believed on Jesus Christ need our prayers. Find someone this week whose not saved, and try praying for them every day this week that they might be saved. Then, they can have the peace of God.
