4 Prayers That Can’t Wait Until Tomorrow

Here are 4 prayers that simply can’t wait until tomorrow.

Prayer Before Surgery

Ever had to have surgery? The night before can be a very troubling and sleepless night. So just before I went to sleep, if sleep didn’t escape me, I prayed about this, and it seemed anything but trivial to me. The awesome thing is, I did sleep–very soundly. Maybe you can pray this same prayer if you or someone you know is about to have surgery:

Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ great name I ask you to help guide the surgeon’s hands tomorrow and steady the work of the technicians, the nurses, and even the anesthesiologist so that the surgery will be successful. I trust You wherever I go, and even though it seems like I’m walking through a valley, a valley of a shadow of death of a sort (Psalm 23:4), I know you are with me at all times, so I thank You for Your faithfulness. Help me have a calm assurance before I go into the hospital tomorrow, and, again, I ask in the name above all names, Jesus Christ, my Lord. Amen.

Prayer for Work

I got in trouble one time at work. It was my fault, even though it was handing out Bible tracts, but that apparently was against company policy. Some people complained, so I was supposed to go in and talk to the supervisor the next day about it. I prayed about this, and it went something like this:

Father God, where mankind rules, You overrule. I know that You reign over all the earth, and nothing is too hard for You. I have some concerns about my meeting tomorrow at work, and I know I must admit that I was wrong and broke company policy. Help me to confess this to my supervisor and that I will strive to not repeat it. I ask you to put the right words in my mouth that will be gracious and humble. I trust You and will confess to them what I did and then leave the results up to You because I know that even a pagan king’s heart is like channels of water in Your hands, and you direct them wherever You desire them to go (Prov. 21:1). In Jesus precious name I pray. Amen.

Prayer for Finances

Have you ever had trouble with your finances? I would imagine that most of us have, and I am certainly no exception. In fact, I live day by day regarding my family’s sustainability. So here is what I pray at times when the worries pile up:

Father, You own the cattle on a thousand hills (Psalm 50:10), and I am asking for Your intervention for some financial concerns that are keeping me awake at night. I know You say that You will “not let the righteous go hungry” (Prov. 10:3), and “I have not seen the righteous forsaken or his children begging for bread” (Psalm 37:25), so I am asking You to help my family through this forest of financial concerns. Surely You care for us more than the birds of the air, and they don’t go for want. You say we are “far more valuable to [You] than they are” (Matt. 6:26), so help us supernaturally through this great time of need, as I trust You more than what I see with my eyes. In Jesus’ mighty name I pray. Amen.

Prayer for Friends

I have had my fair share of troubles with friends, so here is a short prayer about how to restore a right relationship when I’ve blown it big time:

Great and awesome Father God, please forgive me for my sin against my brother (or sister), and I ask for Your mercy. Please help me to humble myself before Your eyes and before my friend so that I can admit that I was wrong, tell them that I am sorry, apologize to them, and ask for their forgiveness. Please give them a forgiving spirit and me a humble, contrite heart to make this relationship what it should be again, and in Christ Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
