5 Encouraging Bible Verses To Start Your Day

Here are five Bible verses that I hope can help you start your day off right.

Psalm 118:24

Psalm 118:24 says, “This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it” so why not rejoice that God has given you another day? As long as we are drawing a breath, God is not finished with us and in fact it says “we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them” (Eph 2:10) so look for something good to do for someone today? God’s appointed one for you somewhere.

Proverbs 21:1

Proverbs 21:1 says, “The king’s heart is a stream of water in the hand of the Lord; he turns it wherever he will” but what does this mean? This means that God is sovereign even over a pagan king’s heart and He turns it to do whatever God’s will is because He alone “changes times and seasons; he removes kings and sets up kings; he gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding” (Dan 2:21) and “it is God who executes judgment, putting down one and lifting up another” (Psalm 75:7).

Romans 8:28

When we read in Romans 8:28 that “we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose,” what does that make us think about? When I read Romans chapter 8, I am so encouraged because it reminds me of the sovereignty of God in Joseph’s life where all the evil done against Him was used for good by God (Gen 50:20) and even the bad things in life will pale in comparison to the glory of God that we’re going to see someday (Rom 8:18) so take comfort is this verse in Romans 8:28, that whatever happens, God will use it for our ultimate good.

Philippians 4:6-7

When Paul writes, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus,” He is saying that God is sovereign over everything. Jesus told His disciples to “Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they” (Matt 6:26). If you trust God, pray to God, and make known your requests to God, then the peace of God will guard your hearts and minds and give you peace of mind about things.

John 14:27

When Jesus gives you something, like eternal life (John 3:16), it’s there to stay (John 6:37-39; 10:28-29), so since Jesus left the disciples His peace, they’re not going to lose it. He told them, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” Why fear when you are in Christ and He’s promised peace to all who believe in Him (Rom 5:1)?
