7 Simple Life Pleasures That Don’t Cost Anything But Time

7 Simple Life Pleasures That Don’t Cost Anything But Time

Here are seven simply pleasures that cost you nothing but can mean a lot.

Taking a Walk

Taking a walk is easy and inexpensive. It will only cost you time. It’s even better when you can find a great nature trial to take a walk on. There’s nothing like getting outside and soaking in the sunshine and fresh air. It’s not only relaxing, but it’s good for you. It clears the minds and lessens the stress. The cost? Zero, except for your time.

Visiting the Sick

This may be the most underrated of all things you can do for free. It does cost you a bit of gas to drive to the hospital, but visiting someone who’s sick is a boast for the patient but also for the visitor. Jesus described this as part of what the Body of Christ, the church, should be doing anyway (Matt 25:36). There is something rewarding about visiting a family member, friend, or church member in the hospital when they’re sick.

Play in the Sprinkler

Is there really an age limit to when you can run through the sprinkler on a hot, sunny day? I don’t think so. Why should children have all the fun…get in there with them…and run and play? Why not join in the fun, or make it even better with a water balloon fight. These are great things that cost next to nothing but are one of life’s simple pleasures.

Watch a good Movie

With the choices we have today, we can plop down on the couch and feast on a big bowl of popcorn while you, or perhaps your whole family, can sit down and watch a good movie together. There are plenty good movies available…you just have to search for them.

Take a Nap

Naps are not just for children. I must admit I don’t have time to do this like I used to but a short nap really refreshes the soul, mind, and body, and we all need that from time to time. You never outgrow the need to take a nap…or even sleep in on a weekend day. That extra rest doesn’t cost you a thing but time but it’s time well spent.

Read a Good Book

This is quickly becoming a lost art with all of the electronic and wireless devices but there is something that’s relaxing about reading a good book. Sit down with a cup of coffee and just relax and read…and read…and read. You might be surprised at how enjoyable this is and the cost; nothing!

Snuggle or Tickle or Wrestle or Play

I put these together because they are related to me. My oldest son just loved being tickled when he was little…and in the park, we went to the swings and played “crash dummies,” where we were just bumping into one another on the swing. At other times, he just loved to wrestle, or be tickled, or snuggle. These are cost-free but they are also priceless times with our children.
