What Bible verses should you commit to memory? Which ones do you think we should commit to memory?
Second Corinthians 9:8 “And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.”
Read that one again because it says that God is able–of course He is–to make all grace abound, no doubt, in order that you and I will have all sufficiency, everything we need (not want) at all times, good and bad, so that we might abound (reach a full level) in every good work that God has appointed for us to do (Eph 2:10). How good that is because God is so good!
Psalm 27:4 “One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in his temple.”
Can you get a mental image of this great day that’s coming (soon)? We will dwell in the house of God all the days of our lives, and if we have been born again, that means for all eternity. Then we can gaze upon the majestic beauty of the Lord forever more. If you read Revelation 21 and 22, you can see how amazing a future that believers in Christ have. It is simply indescribable. No wonder the apostle John had a hard time describing it.
Matthew 11:28 “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
I don’t know about you, but doesn’t the weight of the world seem very heavy at times? Who among us isn’t heavy-laden at times, and how many of us don’t need to seek our rest in Him? I grow tired so often. I am not tired of the work, but I do grow tired in the work; however, Jesus promises us rest. He tells us to “Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light” (Matt 11:29-20). I so need Him.
Isaiah 40:28b-31“He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”
How often do we grow weary in doing good? God promises power to increase the strength of those who have no might, those who are faint, weary, and exhausted. He will renew their strength. Then we can run and not grow weary, walk and not faint in the way. What reassurance to the weary, tired soul that is.
Psalm 126:5-6 “Those who sow in tears shall reap in joy. He who continually goes forth weeping, Bearing seed for sowing, Shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, Bringing his sheaves with him.”
I have a young friend who loves to witness to the lost, but time and time again he is rejected. He has such a tender heart that he weeps for the lost, but these verses say that someday he will reap in joy what has been sown in tears. Doubtless, he will rejoice someday and never weep again, as God promises to wipe every single tear of ours away (Rev 21:4), and what God wipes away stays away!
Conclusion
I hope you’ll commit these uplifting verses to memory and add them to your treasury to draw upon on the day you need them, and that time will come, but the time is also coming when every tear, sorrow, hurt, pain and even death itself will be gone forevermore.
May God richly bless you,
