Here are five Bible quotes that I hope will lift you up today.
Psalm 86:15 “But you, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness.”
I absolutely love this and try to imitate this verse in my life. God, am I merciful to others? Am I as gracious to others as you are to me? Am I slow to anger and filled up with unbounding love and faithfulness? No, not like God, of course, but this is just how awesome our God is. I look in the mirror and am so glad He is slow to anger over my sins and disobedience. I am glad that He is so merciful, not dealing with me according to my sins (Psalm 103:10). His love and faithfulness were displayed on the cross like has never been done before. Oh God, how great You are!
Zephaniah 3:17 “The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.”
Love it! God is in our midst. I realize that this verse was written to Israel, but let me ask you something. Would God feel any different about you or me? If we are in Christ (2 Cor 5:17) and Christ is in us, and since Jesus is God, isn’t God still in our midst? Yes, course He is. In fact, Paul says, “And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s offspring, heirs according to promise” (Gal 3:29). Can you imagine God singing? I wonder what His voice sounds like, but the special thing is that He rejoices over you and exults over you with singing! Wow!
Hebrews 13:5-6 “Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” So we can confidently say, The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?”
We might feel that God has abandoned us, but that is contrary to what the Bible says. I would rather believe God and His Word than trust my feelings, so even when it feels like God is far and distant and He appears to be silent, the truth is He will never leave us and will never forsake us. All others might, but God? Never!
Lamentations 3:22-23 “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”
There is a lot in these two verses. These two little verses could provide a year’s worth of sermons for me! God’s love is steadfast, meaning it is like the sun, which is constant and comes up every morning. His love never ceases and never ceases to amaze me. His mercies are like He is; they never end and are eternal. Every morning when we get up, His love and mercy are brand new, so no wonder His faithfulness is so great. God, being so faithful, never ceases being good to all of us who don’t deserve it.
First Peter 5:6-7 “Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.”
This seems to be a conditional statement given by the Apostle Peter. We must first humble ourselves under God’s mighty hand. I always say, “Humble yourself or God will do it for you, and one is a lot less painful than the other.” When you humble yourself, then God will exalt you, but only “at the proper time,” and it will be when He determines, not us. That exalting might not actually come until King of the kingdom comes. Now if you’ve humbled yourself, God will exalt you when it’s time, and only then can you cast every anxiety you have on Him. Why? It is because He cares for you.
Conclusion
It was hard to stop at five Bible quotes. Which ones would you include? Whatever Bible verse you like or choose here, they will, or at least they should, lift you up today. They did me!
May God richly bless you,
