Here are five awesome Bible verses that you can share with your best friend(s). Maybe you could suggest some.
1 Samuel 18:1 “As soon as he had finished speaking to Saul, the soul of Jonathan was knit to the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.”
This is one of the most touching of all Bible verses about friendship. The Hebrew word for “knit” is “qashar” and means “to bind oneself to” or “to bind fast (secure) to,” and that is just what David and Jonathan did. You can see this when “Jonathan made a covenant with David, because he loved him as his own soul” (1 Samuel 18:3). Is there a more precious Bible verse in all of the Bible about friendship? If so, I couldn’t find it.
Proverbs 17:17 “A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.”
If you’re a woman, you could read this as “and a sister is born for adversity.” I have a friend, a best friend, and he is someone whom I tell “I love you in Christ.” He frequently tells me the same thing. God, in His gracious sovereignty, caused this beloved brother to cross my path, and, indeed, he was born for adversity–my adversity–and I for his. He “loves at all times,” good and bad, when I’ve sinned, when I’ve admitted my faults, and when I’ve needed his help or just an ear to talk. How about you? Do you have such a friend?
Job 6:14 “He who withholds kindness from a friend forsakes the fear of the Almighty.”
If you have a friend, you would never think to withhold your kindness from them, would you? Job says that whoever does this, it is like forsaking the fear of the Almighty. That sounds very serious. I do believe that we often hurt those we love the most, but with a friend, we can at least apologize. But never let us withhold kindness from our friends.
Proverbs 18:24 “A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.”
This is an interesting proverb. It basically says that if you’re a companion of a lot of people, it can lead to ruin, but there is one who will stick closer than a brother or sister. Notice that Solomon wrote that in the singular. Don’t you have that one close friend who’s really a lot closer than a brother or sister? We all need friends, but I believe we all need that one true, close friend with whom we can share our secret faults and sins and trust enough to not share them with anyone.
Proverbs 27:6 “Faithful are the wounds of a friend; profuse are the kisses of an enemy.”
I would rather have my friend tell me the truth than fill my ears with insincere flatter because that really gets me nowhere. I cannot grow if I am never told the truth or never hear my faults. The wounds of a friend are meant for our good. Like a surgeon’s knife cuts, it does so in order to heal.
Conclusion
We all need friends whom we love and who love us at all times, through joyful times and adversity, who stick closer than a brother or sister, and who will tell us the truth and not what we want to hear. The older I get, the more I see the value in friendship. Share these with your best friend today!
May God richly bless you,
