4 Ways You Can Pray for America

Here are four ways you can pray for America. Maybe you can suggest a fifth way.

Prayer for Repentance

Oh Father, only You grant repentance, and I am asking now for You to send repentance into our nation so that we might turn from our wicked ways and that we turn to our Savior and our only hope for the future, for without Christ there is no hope for this nation. Each day it seems there are greater and greater tragedies hitting our land, and it’s because we’ve turned our back on You. Please help us to realize that without You, no nation can succeed for very long, for You bring up nations and You bring them down according to Your sovereign will, and you bless any nation that seeks after You and Your righteousness. That is my prayer for our nation before it is too late, and in the strong name of Jesus Christ I pray. Amen.

Prayer for God’s Presence

Father, there are times when it feels completely hopeless for this nation, but I know that You say “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord” (Psalm 33:12). But are You our Lord anymore? Yes, You are Lord for many who live in this nation, but it appears that we are unraveling more and more every minute of every day, and the future looks foreboding. Only You can send Your Spirit through this land to make them turn to You, but I fear it is too late. However, You are the God of the impossible, and nothing is too hard for You, so I pray that we look back at our Christian roots and return to the faith of our forefathers and all for Your glory. In Christ’s precious name I pray. Amen.

Impending Collapse

Great God in heaven, it is clear that this nation is in trouble and we are headed for Your divine judgment right now. Our financial stability is a house of cards, and it is so vulnerable that only a slight breeze could bring it all down. You say in Your Word, “When the foundations are being destroyed, what can the righteous do” (Psalms 11:3)? Oh God, all we can do now is pray. There is every reason to believe that You have already judged this nation and that we are at a point of no return, or at least swiftly approaching that time. So I plead with You, God, to put Your Spirit in the people of this nation before it is too late and disaster plummets this nation into financial ruin. I pray for the glory of Your Son’s name, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Biblical Prayer for Repentance

Father, I ask what Solomon prayed for in 2 Chronicles 7:14: “If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” Right now our land is sick–sin-sick–as we have grown more and more evil with each passing generation, and only You can send us repentance. We have sinned before You, and we need to humble ourselves again because You resist the proud and will give Your grace only to the humble (James 4:6). Help us to see where we are headed, which is the judgment of God unless we repent, humble ourselves, and seek You. In Jesus’ mighty name and for His glory I pray. Amen.
