5 Awesome Blessings That God Doesn’t Want You to Forget

Here are five very important things that God never wants us to forget.

You’re His Child

Can you imagine your own children forgetting that you’re their parent? But how often do we forget that we are a child of God? The Apostle John, seemingly stressing the fact that we are God’s child at this very moment and forevermore, wrote, “Beloved, we are God’s children now” (1 John 3:2a). John adds to this fact, “Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God” (John 1:12). That is a present possession, not a hope for the future. My children will always be my children, no matter what they do. Consider how much better God is as our Father than we are as His children!

You’re Forgiven

We have a harder time forgiving ourselves than God does. Should we really set a higher standard of forgiving ourselves than God does? That’s exactly what we do sometimes. Isn’t the blood of the Lamb of God sufficient to take away all our sins? Of course it is. God promises that “if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” (Rom. 8:1). If God has forgiven you and you’re no longer condemned, don’t feel like it.

You’re not Perfect

The Apostle John lets us know right away that we’re far from perfect in writing “if we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us” and “if we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us” (1 John 1:8, 10). I don’t want to call God a liar, so I have to confess I still sin. We’re all a work in progress. It takes time. Sanctification, in fact, takes a lifetime, but God is longsuffering and patient with us. My question is, are we patient with ourselves?

You’re Never Forsaken

I know I’ve forsaken God many times and made sinful decisions, but God has promised, “… I will never leave you nor forsake you” (Heb. 13:5b). God spoke to Solomon and told him, “… I will dwell among the children of Israel and will not forsake my people Israel” (1 Kings 6:13). If God promised Solomon and Israel this, would He not do the same for His own children?

You’re His Treasured Possession

This is a hard one for many to swallow, but the Scripture does not err. God says, “… The Lord your God has chosen you to be a people for his treasured possession, out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth” (Deut. 7:6), “but it is because the Lord loves you …” (Deut. 7:8), and “… the Lord your God will keep you …” (Deut. 7:12). God did not choose us because we are good; He choose us because He is. Read Ephesians chapter one to see how you were chosen before the earth and time existed. Extraordinary!

Conclusion

Don’t ever let these precious promises slip your mind. These are unchangeable, and not even God can change them because He is faithful to His own word, even when we’re not. You are a child of God. You have been forgiven. You’re not perfect, but you are perfectly forgiven. He’ll never, ever forsake you, and you are His treasured possession and His to keep. How awesome is that!?
