4 Comforting Bible Verses About God’s Protection

Here are four comforting Bible verses you can read or memorize that are about God’s protection.

Psalm 91:1-2 “He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”

If you want to feel God’s protection, read Psalm 91 because it is chocked full of Bible verses about God’s care of His own. In this very special Psalm, it says God “will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence” (Psalm 91:3), and He “will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler” (Psalm 91:4). For this reason, you need not “fear the terror of the night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in darkness, nor the destruction that wastes at noonday” (Psalm 91:5-6), and even if “a thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand…it will not come near you” (Psalm 91:7). That should give you great comfort.

Psalm 5:11 “But let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them ever sing for joy, and spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may exult in you.”

There is joy in being embraced by God and being in His sovereign protection. This type of safety brings joy, but it also brings comfort. Everyone who takes refuge in God is taking refuge in a strong tower. Is it any wonder then that they will exult in God because of His protection for all who love God’s name? Like a shelter, He spreads His protection over His children like an eagle does her young.

Psalm 34:7 “The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them.”

The angel of the Lord is frequently mentioned by name in the Old Testament. This angel either provided protection for the nation of Israel or was part of the judgment of God in destroying her enemies. Imagine God sending an angel that encamps around you who fear Him! God states that He will deliver those who trust in Him.

Psalm 125:2 “As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the Lord surrounds his people, from this time forth and forevermore.”

If you looked at Jerusalem on a map, you’d discover that there are mountains surrounding her. The use of the word “mountains” is sometimes synonymous with nations, so this may be the psalmist’s way of ensuring the nation of Israel that God surrounds his people as He does those in the Body of Christ, the church, and that protection has no expiration date because it is “from this time forth and forevermore.”

Conclusion

Psalm 68:5 declares that He is the “father of the fatherless and protector of widows is God in his holy habitation.” If you have repented and trusted in Christ, then He is your Father and He will not forsake or leave you (Heb. 13:5).
