Here are four treasures we can be looking forward to in heaven.
No More Sin
Do you ever get sick and tired of being sick and tired over sin? I mean I just get so sick of falling into sin. I suppose that’s good in the sense that at least we’re not diving into sin and swimming around in it. The Christian may fall into sin and still be responsible for it, of course. But we get back up, dust ourselves off, ask for forgiveness, and keep on going. I for one cannot wait for all the rest of my fleshy nature to die off at Christ’s return or at my death. Not only will there not be anymore sin in us, even the urge to sin will be gone. I am so looking forward to that great day.
Pain, Suffering, and Death’s End
It seems that every day there is yet another terrorist attack, another mass shooting, a new deadly disease, or another natural disaster somewhere, and it just goes on endlessly. To me it seems to be getting worse every day. God speaks about what will end in the kingdom of heaven, as God “will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away” (Rev. 21:4), and for me that can’t happen soon enough.
Family Reunion
I have had the privilege to preside over Christian funerals. What is really comforting to the loved ones left behind is that it’s not really goodbye–it’s see you later! Remember, Jesus said more than once that God is not the God of the dead. “He is the God of the living” (Luke 20:38), so we shouldn’t talk about them as if they’re gone;they’re just not here. Where they are, we will be someday, and what a joyous family reunion that will be; however, that reunion will never happen unless the person has repented and trusted in Christ. If they haven’t, then it’s not “see you later” but “goodbye forever.”
Seeing God Face to Face
We know from Scripture that we’ll be in the presence of God because it says in Revelation 21:3 that “the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God,” which means we “will see his face” (Rev. 22:4) for the very first time. Haven’t you longed, as I have, to look into the face of Jesus? My friends, that day is coming for the children of God.
Conclusion
What joy we have to look forward to in the kingdom of heaven. Just read Revelation 22 to see why I can say that. It will mark the end of sin, the death of death, the reunion of loved ones, and the seeing of Jesus Christ, face to face. Aren’t those infinitely priceless, precious treasures that we can look forward to in the New Jerusalem?
May God richly bless you,
