Here are six truly evil people from the Bible.
King Ahaz
King Ahaz is considered Judah’s most evil king. After Israel became two separate nations; Israel to the north and Judah to the south, Israel fell into idolatry and were sent into captivity by God’s judgment. You’d have thought that King Ahaz would have learned from that, but his pagan worship was so wicked that he even offered his own son as a sacrifice in the fire to one of the pagan deities (2nd Kings 16:3-4; 2nd Chron 28:24).
Judas Iscariot
There is a reason that people stopped calling their newborn children Judas about AD 30. It was because of the tarnish that Judas Iscariot left on that name. No more would the Jews ever call their son Judas. Because he betrayed Jesus Christ, he was called the “son of perdition” (John 17:12). For a measly thirty pieces of silver, Judas betrayed the Son of God, but this was part of God’s sovereign plan all along (John 3:16), but this still doesn’t mean Judas is not responsible for his evil action. He surely is.
King Ahab
King Ahab may be even more evil that King Ahaz because he worshipped many pagan gods and set up high places to worship in many places in Israel. God knew this would happen and why He forbid them to marry outside of Israel, because once King Ahab married a pagan woman, she led him into worshiping the god, Baal, and eventually, she was influenced the nation being led away into captivity. Her name was Jezebel.
King Manasseh
King Manasseh is considered by many to be the worst of Israel’s kings because after his father, King Hezekiah, led many of the reforms away from pagan worship, Manasseh went hard and fast the other direction. He built up altars for Baal, erected dozens of other high places for worshiping pagan gods, and he even brought brand new forms of idolatry, not even heard among the pagans. He went so far as to build altars in the house of the Lord! How evil can one get?!
Jezebel
After King Ahab married Jezebel, it was as if she were king because she so influenced King Ahab that she led the nation further and further away from God and deeper and deeper into pagan worship. He cared for over 800 false prophets and killed many of the true prophets, and even sought to kill Elijah. This wicked woman even arranged for the murder of a vineyard owner named Naboth when her husband could not take control of the land by himself (1st Kings 21).
King Herod
After King Herod discovered that the Christ was to be born in Bethlehem, “he sent and killed all the male children in Bethlehem and in all that region who were two years old or under, according to the time that he had ascertained from the wise men” (Matt 2:16). King Herod’s evil killing spree of young children fulfilled Jeremiah31:15 and his prophecy of, “A voice was heard in Ramah, weeping and loud lamentation. Rachel weeping for her children; she refused to be comforted, because they are no more” (Matt 2:18), which was a quote of Jeremiah 31:15.
Conclusion
Have you noticed that most of these evil people were kings? Isn’t that even worse when evil kings rule? Is that what is happening today in our nation? Is God using evil leadership as a judgment against this nation? He has in the past and so it’s entirely possible that He is doing this again today.
May God richly bless you,
