3 Reasons Why There Is No Luck

Here are three reasons why I don’t believe in luck.

Not even a Sparrow

The idea that there is such a thing as luck seeks to make “time and chance” responsible for everything that happens, but what we must remember is that nothing happens outside of the will of God. Speaking of sparrows, Jesus said, “not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father” (Matt 10:29) and His will. God never says, “Uh oh,” nothing ever dawns on God, and nothing has ever occurred to Him. He is infinite in His knowledge. God knew that when that sparrow was to fall to the ground, but He also knew where and when.

Evil for Good

When I hear, “Wow, that’s bad luck,” I think, “No, it’s God’s will.” When Joseph was thrown into prison, twice and both times unjustly, someone might have said, “Wow, Joseph, that’s bad luck.” Instead, Joseph trusted God, and as a result, “The LORD was with Joseph” (Gen 39:2, 21-23). He didn’t think, “That’s bad luck” because He knew that God was with Him. God can use evil for good, just as He did with Joseph (Gen 50:20), and ultimately, with Jesus Christ (John 3:16).

Was, Is, and Is to Come

The Bible verse that speaks of Jesus Christ and His divinity is from the Apostle John in the Book of Revelation, where he writes of Christ, “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty” (Rev 1:8). The Lord Jesus Christ is “Who was” because He has always existed; He is, and is now at the right hand of the Father but is in us also; and He “Who is to come,” which we keep looking up, in eager expectation for the appearance of the Son of God and King of kings and Lord of lords.

Conclusion

Since there is no such thing as luck, we can stop trying to take things personally that happen to us, especially when they’re not good things. We know that God is sovereign over every single thing that happens; that God can use bad for good; because He’s seen the future and He is coming for us. Will it be soon? I don’t know. I hope so.
