When God Sings

When God Sings

The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves.  He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing” (Zeph 3:17).

Can you imagine hearing God sing?  I could not fathom hearing God’s voice, let alone hearing Him sing but that is what Zephaniah says about God. God sings over you and takesgreat delight in you.”  I look in the mirror and have to think, “He sings over me? No way.”  Since we know that God can not lie, this must be true (Num 23:19).

When I consider the wonder of God’s mercy I am left speechless.  The context of this 3rd chapter of Zephaniah makes me want to sing to Him!  Why?  Just read why:

15  The Lord has taken away your punishment, he has turned back your enemy.

God has taken away our punishment (2 Cor 5:21) and turned back our enemy.  Our mortal enemy is death and Jesus conquered death.

13c  They will eat and lie down and no one will make them afraid.

This reminds me of the 23rd Psalm where our Shepherd makes us lie down in green pastures to feed (v 1), where He ensures  that we will lack nothing (v 1), that He refreshes our soul (v 2), and where no one will make us afraid for we have no evil to fear, even in the darkest valleys (v 4).

The next time you sing worship songs back to God in church, in the car, or even in the shower, think about how God actually sings over you because He takes great delight in you” and that “in His love He will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.  Now I don’t have the greatest singing voice, but can you even imagine the voice of God and what His singing must sound like?  What an awesome God He is!  I rejoice in that with singing!

May God richly bless you,

Pastor Jack Wellman
