Galatians 1:15 But when he who had set me apart before I was born, and who called me by his grace.
There is an old love ballad by the band called Foreigner called “I want to know what love is” It is one of their most popular songs. I thought about this song a little when I read Galatians 1:15. It is such a glorious fact about the God that I worship that He “set me apart before I was born” and “called me by His grace.” That is a love that I cannot fully understand. It continues to amaze me when I think about how much love that God has for me.
In my earthly reasoning I often love things or people that help me or bring me joy. Let me explain…I love family and friends because they support me and love me even when I am unlovely. Maybe I love playing golf because it allows me to forget about life for a while. Or maybe I love to eat a good meal because it satisfies my taste buds. What I am trying to say is that the love we show for people and things often bring benefit to us. That isn’t a bad thing but it seems to be how our mind works when using earthly wisdom.
That is what is so amazing about this verse and the love of God. He choose me…he loves me…before I was ever born. He choose to love me so much even though he knew that I would be a sinner and often put things and even people before Him. Yet, He choose to love me and give me grace. Have you thought about the love of God today? Did you thank Him today for His love and grace in your life? Galatians 1:15 is a verse of love that humbles me this morning. It made me think of the cross. It made me think about Jesus dying for me.
Maybe you are different than me and you are able to love someone or something that is not lovely all the time. But I think, if we are honest with ourselves, we all fall short in this area. Yet, God continues to love us in spite of our sin and disobedience.
My prayer today is that you will reflect on God’s grace in your life today and be able to show love to those around you and in doing this you will bring honor and worship to God.
Praise Him!
